Our Annex building students participated in a Wax Museum project last week. Students were asked to research and write a biography on a famous person of their choice. During the museum presentation they dressed like that person and then came to life by reciting their biography. It was an AMAZING event!!!

Each year hundreds of young students across the city become caregivers for sick and elderly parents or relatives.  Some of the chores they have to face are watching over younger brothers or sisters (picking them up from school, doing homework with them and cooking and cleaning for them), assisting parents with chores like laundry and dinner preparations, cleaning the house and sometimes even administering medicine to sick relatives.  The COME organization has created a support group called SHARKS (Students Helping and Assisting Relatives with Knowledge and Skills) that assists these students in overcoming their obstacles while trying to also focus on their personal tasks like doing their own homework.  In addition, they treat students to trips around the city like plays, ice skating and movies.

We would like to thank the SHARKs and the COME organization by supporting these brave students.  As a token of our appreciation, PS 83 assisted them in their Alzheimer's Awareness campaign by selling bracelets for the cause.  

The P.S. 83 Student Council decided to give back to our community during Women's History Month.  Our 5th through 8th graders participated in a 'Penny War' to see who could raise the most amount of money to help our local women's shelter, The Sienna House.  Together, we raised over $2,000!!
