After analyzing previous year’s standardized test scores in Math and ELA, it was noted that students’ responses to open ended questions rarely earned the maximum possible points across the grades. In addition, classroom writing assignments, essays and unit assessments also showed lack of depth when it came to open ended and essay responses.

In an effort to create better writers, we are encouraging better thinkers. Through quality research, sustained independent reading and thoughtful discussions, it is our hope that students will be able to retain more information and be able to better express themselves in writing.  Therefore, our instructional focus is…

By incorporating quality independent reading routines as well as rigorous discussions into our daily practice,

learners will then be able to formulate fact based ideas in order to generate high-quality narrative, argumentative and informational writing pieces.

Please feel free to ask your child every day "What did you talk about in school today?"
